A screentalk with Writer / Director Francis Lee (God’s Own Country) and Producer Diarmid Scrimshaw (Tyrannosaur, Journeyman)
Leeds International Festival and Screen Yorkshire are delighted to present this screentalk with two of the Yorkshire’s most exciting filmmakers: Writer / Director Francis Lee and Producer Diarmid Scrimshaw (Inflammable Films). Francis has recently returned to his Yorkshire homeland fresh from showcasing forthcoming feature ‘God’s Own Country’ at leading film festivals around the globe. Hailed by a leading film critic as ‘A British Brokeback Mountain…but better’, God’s Own Country has already picked up some of the most prestigious awards on the international film festival circuit, including the ‘World Cinema Directing Award, Dramatic’ at Sundance and the Manner’s Jury Award at the Berlin Film Festival. Filmed in Yorkshire, it follows young farmer Johnny Saxby (Josh O’Connor) whose encounter with Romanian migrant worker (Alec Secareanu) ignites an intense relationship.
Francis and Diarmid will talk about the journey from script to screen with the project. Diarmid Exec Produced God’s Own Country. He also produced ‘Tyrannosaur’ and the soon to be completed ‘Journeyman’, both shot in Yorkshire.
*God’s Own Country is not currently available to screen in full, but we will show audiences a sneak preview clip alongside Francis’s short film ‘The Last Smallholder’
The talk will be followed by a screening of feature film Tyrannosaur (filmed in Leeds) directed by Paddy Considine and produced by Diarmid Scrimshaw’s Inflammable Films with backing from Screen Yorkshire.
