Best of the Rest
Leeds is a bustling city. We know that the best place to be, from 2-12th May, is Leeds International Festival – but if you’re in Leeds this spring, and just buzzing to see and do all this remarkable city has to offer, we’ve collated a Best of the Rest list below. How many can you tick off?
Leeds Indie Food festival 2019
Now in its fifth year, this annual celebration of all things food and drink runs 9-27th May this year, bringing just over a fortnight of foodie collaborations, one-offs, exclusive meals, supper clubs, workshops and unique events which will be popping up right across the city. Chart the journey of Leeds’ favourite Gujarati gourmets with a Bundobust Origins meal, where you will meet at their Mill Hill establishment before heading back to their roots as Prashad and Sparrow Bier Cafe in Bradford (taking place at Prashad’s current home in Drighlington), and experience their favourite foods and classics from their five year history, or head to Vice and Virtue to Perfect your Palate – the 94 events on offer are all as diverse, exciting and interesting as you can imagine!
Running 23rd April – 3rd May, the Digital Festival is the largest digital festival in the North! It’s also an open platform event, so they get lots of diverse entries – as any individual or company can sign up. Think smart design, hyper-personalisation, hacking…it’s an open-minded, forward-thinking digital festival with the Uni of Leeds as a leading sponsor.
Live at Leeds
On Saturday 4th May, Live at Leeds is back, at various venues across the city. This successful metropolitan music festival is known for launching the ‘next big thing’ – they’ve had Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man and Ed Sheeran on their rise to success – so get down to one of the amazing gigs this year. Headlining this May is the likes of Sundara Karma, Metronomy, Drenge and Kate Tempest, amongst a whole host of others. This is a festival of cross-genre beats for anyone interested in hearing great live music.
26th April-4th May, Transform is a festival which celebrates powerful and innovative performance. “An engine room for urgent, of the moment theatre in Leeds’, the festival creates a citywide takeover festival every two years, featuring a host of local and international artists. Transform is about reimagining what theatre is and what it can do, and is presented at arts venues right across Leeds, including outdoor spaces.
