The Discovery Zone
The Discovery Zone in 2019 was located outside of Debenhams on Briggate in Leeds city centre. The site consisted of 40ft-long shipping containers that were hard to miss!
Partnered with sponsor iNews, The Discovery Zone was an inclusive place to learn, relax, and take part in something new on the iconic Leeds shopping street. The containers brought the Festival right into the heart of Leeds and were accessible to all.
The Discovery Zone hosted an eclectic programme of activities throughout the Festival, from talks and workshops to VR experiences and discussions, open to the public and visible to passers-by.
Discovery highlights included the likes of “What is Your Sacred Space?” (an enlightened panel debate), The Bloody Big Brunch (a social action campaign tackling the Tampon Tax), Pop-up Sculpture (with Yorkshire Sculpture International), and an Algorythmic Drumming Circle workshop.
Festival information was also available in the unique space every day, so the public could call in and have a chat with our Festival Makers.A pink deckchair seating area was open outside too for those that needed to rest their legs and take in the sights and sounds of the Festival.
Many events were free in The Discovery Zone, and participants could secure a seat with a small donation to the charity, Big Change Leeds: www.bigchangeleeds.co.uk.
We look forward to plans for 2020 – watch this space for updates!
