In conversation: Bright Young Thing with Sadie Williams
A chat with Sadie Williams, London born designer creating innovative, textile driven fashion. Juxtaposing modernity with applied craftsmanship.
Since earning a Distinction from her Masters degree on the Central Saint Martins Fashion Course, she has become recognised for her distinctive style and aesthetic. Capitalising on her strengths in print & textile design, and often incorporating her signature use of metallic, Sadie mixes her sporty tomboyish sensibility with grown up femininity.
Showing bi-annually on the London Fashion Week schedule, with support from The British Fashion Council’s ‘Newgen’ sponsorship programme, her collections have been highlights as part of Selfridges ‘Bright Young Things’ included in Vogue Festival 2016 and ‘Designs of the Year 2014’ exhibition at The Design Museum.
She was listed in Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30” list for the Arts in 2016, alongside Simone Rocha & Wales Bonner.
Following a hugely commercially successful capsule for & Other Stories Sadie launched her own label, now retailing internationally to stockists including Machine-A, Boon the Shop in Seoul and Beams in Japan.
2017 saw her awarded with ‘Swarovski Collective’ sponsorship, nominated for the The International Woolmark Prize, complete special projects for Carharrt Wip, Google Pixel Phone and Squarespace.
2018 will bring new collections under her own label, and see her further embracing collaborations and special projects with a forthcoming art piece for The Royal Academy/Christies Auction House.
