Ghost World presented by Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival and Scalarama Leeds
Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival and Scalarama Leeds are proud to present the incredible Ghost World.
Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name by Harvey and Eisner award-winning cartoonist Daniel Clowes, the screenplay for this cult film was co-written by Clowes and the film’s director Terry Zwigoff.
Ghost World is a black comedy focusing on the lives of Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson in her first comic book film role), two bored teens who are wondering what to do with their lives post high-school. One day they meet older man Seymour (Steve Buscemi) who develops a curious friendship with Enid, causing a rift between the girls. The film has a wonderful soundtrack, inspired by Seymour’s love of trawling garage sales in search of vintage 78s.
There will be a bar at this event, so please feel free to hang around in the beautiful surroundings of the Spiegeltent after the film.
Thought Bubble are thrilled to announce that they will be bringing a comic art-inspired strand of films to Leeds throughout September 2018, as part of Scalarama (1-30 September) and Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival (17-23 September). Expect to see some wonderful films and animation, from the classics to the avant-garde!Thought Bubble Festival is the UK’s largest event of its kind – an annual celebration of comic art in all its forms, including everything from superhero comics to independent and small-press artists and writers. The festival caters to long-time comic book fans and those
who have never picked up a graphic novel before. Thought Bubble formed in 2007 as a non-profit-making organisation dedicated to promoting comics and graphic novels as an important national and international cultural art-form. Now in its 12th year, the festival takes place over a full week, with a jam-packed programme of events at a variety of venues across Leeds City Centre. This year’s festival runs from 17th to 23rd of September (with selected satellite and fringe events before and after these dates), and will include exhibitions, free art and writing workshops for young people and adults, a two-day academic conference, and talks and masterclasses led by industry professionals. A huge two-day comic con will take place on 22nd and 23rd September. There will be an incredible line-up of leading artists and writers, and over 400 tables showcasing the best in comic art, with creator appearances, publisher presence, and retailers. Scalarama is a celebration of cinema, for everyone, by everyone, everywhere, taking place
every September.
