Entrepreneur Jonathan Straight was born and bred in Leeds and has lived in the City all of his life.
Leeds was the location of the business he is best known for, Straight plc, which he founded in 1993 and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2003 before exiting several years later. Since leaving the business, he has devoted much of his time to “good works” as a trustee of three Leeds-based charities: The Tetley, The Real Junk Food Project and We Are IVE.
He has also become a street and reportage photographer with thousands of followers on Instagram, two exhibitions under his belt, a book published and his work on display at a City Centre co-working space.
In this talk about this life in Leeds and the place the City of Leeds has in it, he will talk about his entrepreneurial journey, his charitable work and his television series about the City. But first and foremost, he will discuss his photography, the lure of photographing strangers, some of the projects he has worked on and the pros and cons of carrying out this kind of work in his home town.
