Sex Robots with Dr Kate Devlin
Dr Kate Devlin, Senior Lecturer in Social and Cultural Artificial Intelligence at King’s College London, walked a full auditorium through the history of sex and technology, before explaining where AI, robotics, and sex and love meet today.
The fascinating concept behind the lecture by one of the UK’s foremost experts on human sexuality and technology was the ethical and social implications of a future world where human-computer interaction moves beyond the mouse and keyboard.
The event was a brilliant mixture of academia, research, global case studies, and humour. Dr Devlin’s TEDx ‘Sex Robots’ presentation made in the same year as L17 has been watched by nearly 200,000 people so far.
Dr Devlin was named one of London’s ‘Most Influential People 2017’ by the Evening Standard’s Progress1000 list and was one of Motherboard’s Humans of the Year 2017.
The captivating talk at Hyde Park Picture House was followed fittingly by a screening of the Oscar-nominated, poignant classic ‘Lars and The Real Girl’, a quirky comedy featuring Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer and “Bianca,” his sex doll.
