September 14, 2025

Get ready to raise your volume, as Riot Women, the bold new drama from Sally Wainwright, has dropped its first trailer, and it’s an electrifying sneak peek into a story you won’t want to miss Watch the first trailer for BBC’s ‘Riot Women’

Set against the resilient spirit of West Yorkshire, Riot Women follows five menopausal women—teachers, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife, and a free‑spirited freeloader—who form a punk rock band to enter a local talent contest. What starts as a midlife rebellion becomes a powerful soundtrack to their untold stories, forging unlikely bonds and unearthing a deeply emotional connection between two of the group’s leaders Geektown.

Created, written, and directed by multi‑BAFTA‑winning writer Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack), the six‑part series bursts with raw honesty and rebellious energy. It features an outstanding ensemble cast—Joanna Scanlan, Tamsin Greig, Rosalie Craig, Lorraine Ashbourne, Amelia Bullmore—alongside a powerhouse supporting cast including Anne Reid, Sue Johnston, Peter Davison, and more

With original music from Brighton punk duo ARXX, the sound is just as authentic as the story it drives.

Why This Matters

This event is more than just a preview, it’s a celebration of bold narratives and creative courage. Riot Women is a testament to unfiltered storytelling, exploring life’s loudest moments when women hit their stride, claws out, and ready to be heard. And what better place to dissect that energy than on the LIFI25 stage.
