Two new additions to the LIFI26 programme

The Leeds International Festival of Ideas 2026 programme just got even better, with a headline name joining one of our most anticipated conversations and a brand-new event landing in the line-up.

Tasha Ghouri joins Dame Evelyn Glennie

We’re thrilled to reveal that content creator and deaf advocate Tasha Ghouri will join award-winning percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie for Strength beyond the silence (Thursday 8 October, 7.30–9pm, The Courtyard). Born profoundly deaf and with a following of more than two million, Tasha — known for Love Island, Strictly Come Dancing and Pilgrimage — is a passionate champion of deaf representation and accessibility. Hosted by broadcaster Dr Hannah French, this uplifting fireside chat will explore how two remarkable women have broken barriers, challenged stereotypes and turned their unique perspectives into their greatest strengths.

A new maths event with Rachel Riley

To celebrate Leeds becoming the UK’s first-ever City of Maths, we’re adding Is maths the root of everything? to the programme (Wednesday 7 October, 12–1.30pm, The Courtyard). Channel 4’s Countdown number whizz Rachel Riley MBE leads a panel of experts revealing how maths turns up everywhere — from music and disease modelling to graphic design, construction and space exploration — and why it’s a powerful tool for tackling society’s biggest challenges. She’s joined by Dr Katie Chicot, Professor Ben Gaunt, Dr Ollie Halliday and Professor Catherine Noakes OBE.
